Entre os meses de setembro e outubro, estive viajando pela América do Sul. Além de uma ida à Colômbia — muito importante para entender o contexto do futebol e a cultura do país —, tive a oportunidade de estar no Chile para acompanhar a Copa do Mundo Sub-20.
Durante o Mundial, pude assistir in loco a diversos jogos, de diferentes seleções e contextos. Também estavam presentes inúmeros profissionais de clubes, funções e países distintos, todos com objetivos próprios, mas com o mesmo interesse em observar de perto uma competição que reúne diferentes formas de jogar e de pensar o jogo.
Entre tantos aprendizados, um ponto no qual eu já acreditava se confirmou de forma ainda mais clara: futebol é contexto. E entender isso profundamente é o que permite acertar muito mais do que errar — seja qual for a função de quem trabalha no esporte.
Começando pelas equipes: coletivamente, foi possível observar várias escolas e propostas de jogo se enfrentando — times com mais posse, menos posse, jogo direto, apoiado, reativo, posicional. Qual é a melhor? Na verdade, todas podem ser boas ou ruins. Mais importante do que o gosto pessoal é entender o contexto coletivo de cada equipe e a ideia de jogo de cada treinador. Só depois, com esse “óculos”, é possível avaliar se a equipe joga bem ou não — o que, no fim das contas, significa apenas ser eficiente na execução da própria ideia.
E quando olhamos para os profissionais e os jogadores que estavam lá? O que são, afinal, “bons jogadores”? Essa resposta está intimamente ligada ao contexto em que se observa. É impossível dizer se um jogador é bom ou não sem antes responder: para onde e para quem?
Um atleta de uma seleção X, com determinada característica, pode “não ser bom” para um clube que busca outra demanda — mas pode se encaixar perfeitamente em uma equipe Y, em outro cenário. Arrisco dizer que todos os jogadores que disputaram o torneio têm qualidades suficientes para performar bem em algum bom contexto coletivo. O desafio é encontrar onde esse potencial pode se expressar melhor. É papel do clube colocar o jogador no ambiente certo, onde suas condições técnicas, táticas, cognitivas e humanas se alinhem ao modelo de jogo e ao propósito coletivo.
Por isso, a ida à Colômbia também foi tão relevante: além dos jogos, a possibilidade de entender a cultura e o contexto dos atletas locais é uma informação de altíssimo valor. Observar é também compreender o ambiente que forma o jogador — e isso inclui elementos culturais, sociais e humanos.
Outro ponto essencial, quando falamos de contexto, é a cultura em que o atleta vive e a capacidade de adaptação ao novo ambiente. Um jovem jogador da Coreia do Sul, que sempre viveu e jogou em seu país, tem hábitos completamente diferentes de um atleta da Nigéria que cresceu e atuou no futebol africano. Essas diferenças impactam diretamente na forma de treinar, competir e se relacionar. O processo de adaptação humana e cultural pode ser tão ou até mais importante do que qualquer característica técnica — e ignorá-lo pode comprometer o desempenho de um jogador em campo.
Por isso, compreender o contexto em todas as dimensões — tática, cultural, emocional e humana — é o que realmente diferencia quem apenas observa de quem entende o jogo e as pessoas que o compõem.
Para encerrar, gostaria de lembrar de uma frase que ouvi algum tempo atrás do amigo Renato Rodrigues, hoje comentarista da TNT a quem tenho bastante respeito e admiração:
“Não existe jogador ruim, existe jogador no lugar e no contexto errado.”
Essa frase sempre fez muito sentido pra mim. E, ao observar a diversidade de profissionais e atletas presentes no Mundial, ela se mostrou novamente atual e verdadeira.
