Encerrou-se em 25 de janeiro de 2026 mais uma Copa São Paulo de Futebol Junior, popularmente conhecida como “Copinha”, mencionada pela Federação Paulista de Futebol, sua idealizadora, como a “maior competição de base do planeta”, contando com 128 equipes e milhares de jogadores com idade inferior a 21 anos (nascidos até o ano de 2005).  

A primeira reflexão que cabe fazermos se refere à denominação dada a esta competição como “de base”. Base para que? Podemos supor que seja base para a profissionalização, mas melhor seria se fosse (como é em alguns casos) base para a formação esportiva; base para a formação humana e integral; base para a vida! Por outro lado, é possível supor também que é base para realização de um sonho ou para o início de um pesadelo.

Podemos ainda, sob uma perspectiva mais crítica, entender essa competição como a base de um grande balcão de negócios, no qual as “joias” de cada clube são “lapidadas” e vendidas a outros clubes, sobretudo do exterior. Neste contexto, as arquibancadas são tomadas por “olheiros” que observam os jogadores buscando sua “galinha dos ovos de ouro”, tal como acontece com mineradores que, pelo processo de peneiramento dos rios, descobrem a sua pepita ou então, tal qual as feiras/exposições/leilões de gado, nas quais pecuaristas avaliam bois para comercializá-los e obter lucro com essa transação.  

Ainda assim, é praticamente consenso que a Copinha se trata de uma competição de base voltada à profissionalização do atleta, não necessariamente do mesmo clube. Alguns clubes, inclusive, sequer possuem categoria profissional, tal qual a surpreendente equipe do Ibrachina, que obteve sua melhor classificação em sua breve história nesta edição. É, em alguns casos, principalmente para os atletas nascidos em 2005, a última chance de se profissionalizar e passar pelo difícil e perverso “funil” do futebol profissional que, para a dura realidade de muitos jovens e suas famílias, absorve apenas, conforme dados da Universidade do Futebol, menos de 5% daqueles jovens que buscam realizar o sonho de se tornar jogador profissional de futebol.

Em minha tese de doutorado (CASTELLANI, 2017), pude constatar que esse dado equivale, especificamente em um dos clubes investigados, a cerca de 8%. Euler Victor, um dos grandes estudiosos do nosso futebol de base, nos apresenta em pesquisa recente ainda não publicada, que cerca de 15% dos atletas que disputam a copinha acaba assinando contratos profissionais e permanecem ao menos 3 anos atuando profissionalmente, ainda que somente 5% destes tem a oportunidade de jogar em grandes equipes das quatro principais séries do futebol brasileiro.    

Ou seja, ainda que sobrevalorizemos esses dados, menos de 15 jovens, a cada 100 que disputam essa competição, tornam-se jogadores profissionais e realizam o sonho buscado desde a infância. Um sonho, vale destacar, que não é pessoal, mas sim familiar. Alguns deles, é verdade, já possuem seu contrato profissional antes mesmo de disputar uma partida profissionalmente, mas isso tem muito mais relação com a preservação de um “ativo” por parte do clube do que pelas qualidades esportivas já adquiridas e demonstradas pelo jovem atleta.

Esse funil é tão estreito e desafiador que, para grande parte destes jovens, poder disputar uma Copinha já é um sonho. São inúmeros os exemplos e relatos presenciados que expressam muita emoção, gratidão e felicidade com esse feito. Cada choro ao ouvir o hino brasileiro tocar antes do início da partida, ao conceder uma entrevista ou ao comemorar um gol é a mais pura expressão do significado social que o futebol tem para estes milhares de jovens.

Por outro lado, infelizmente, a avassaladora maioria destes jovens talentosos jogadores de futebol “fica pelo caminho” e não passa pelo funil que os levam ao futebol profissional. Para estes, a Copinha é, ao mesmo tempo, sonho e pesadelo. Sonho, pelos motivos supracitados. Pesadelo, por verem desmoronar a última oportunidade de se tornarem um jogador profissional. Entretanto, o que faz da não realização de um sonho um pesadelo não é, necessariamente, o fato de não obter um contrato profissional. Mas é a forma como é “descartado” e por se ver sem outra perspectiva de vida. Dediquei um dos capítulos da minha tese de doutorado, publicada em 2017 (CASTELLANI, 2017), para discorrer sobre esse assunto com mais qualidade, mas cabe aqui frisar que são comuns os sentimentos de impotência, frustração, desamparo, abandono, decepção e tristeza. Disse-me um jovem jogador que tive a oportunidade de entrevistar: “…não estar mais nos planos do clube é simplesmente, mais ou menos, que nem papel higiênico, você é descartado”.

Não há melhor forma de oferecer a estes inúmeros jovens outra perspectiva de vida do que lhes oferecendo, além de um ambiente acolhedor, respeitoso e um tratamento humanizado, uma educação de qualidade. É preciso investir na educação destes jovens! E investir na educação não é conferir se estão matriculados em alguma escola e se a frequentam; é garantir que tenham as melhores condições possíveis para obter uma educação formal de qualidade. Educação de qualidade não deve ser plano B para jogadores que não se profissionalizam. Deve ser plano A! Sim, afinal, a educação formal é fundamental tanto para os que não se profissionalizam no futebol, como também para os que alcançam esse objetivo. E se em grande parte de uma partida os jogadores passam tomando decisões que sejam capazes de resolver os problemas do jogo, alguém tem dúvidas também de que um jogador inteligente tem maiores condições de obter sucesso jogando futebol?
