Existe uma pergunta que me acompanha há muitos anos: que tipo de profissional o futebol precisará daqui a dez anos?
Durante muito tempo, a especialização foi o principal caminho para quem queria crescer no esporte. O treinador buscava ser um treinador melhor. O scout, um scout melhor. O psicólogo, um psicólogo melhor.
Esse movimento foi fundamental para a evolução do jogo.
Mas quanto mais estudava futebol, mais percebia que os grandes problemas da alta performance dificilmente pertenciam a uma única área do conhecimento.
Uma contratação envolve comportamento humano, leitura de contexto, análise de desempenho, projeção de potencial e estratégia organizacional.
O desenvolvimento de um atleta depende da interação entre aspectos técnicos, táticos, físicos, psicológicos, sociais e culturais.
Uma decisão tomada por uma comissão técnica nunca é apenas uma decisão tática. Ela também envolve liderança, comunicação, gestão de pessoas, cultura e risco.
O futebol é complexo porque a tomada de decisão é complexa.
Foi essa percepção que começou a transformar minha carreira.
Por volta de 2010, nas conversas e aulas do professor João Paulo Medina, fundador da Universidade do Futebol, fui provocado por uma ideia que nunca mais me deixou: talvez estudar futebol significasse, antes de tudo, aprender a questionar os paradigmas através dos quais enxergamos o próprio jogo.
Desde então, essa inquietação passou a orientar minhas escolhas.
A graduação em Psicologia nunca teve como objetivo formar apenas um psicólogo do esporte. A experiência como scout e Analise de desempenho seja no FC Dallas (atual) ou nos diferentes contextos que encontrei nos meus 7 anos de São Paulo futebol clube nunca tiveram como único objetivo apenas identificar jogadores tecnicamente. A atuação em consultorias, na Seleção Brasileira de Rugby, os estudos sobre liderança, gestão e, mais recentemente, finanças corporativas, também nunca foram experiências desconectadas entre si.
Todas fizeram parte do mesmo projeto.
Hoje percebo que minha carreira não foi construída para me transformar em especialista de uma única disciplina.
Ela foi construída para compreender como pessoas, equipes e organizações tomam decisões em ambientes de alta performance e como construir contextos e escolher pessoas para que essas decisões sejam cada vez mais assertivas em diferentes áreas.
O futebol tornou-se o principal laboratório dessa investigação.
Talvez seja por isso que cada vez mais me interesso pelas conexões entre psicologia, liderança, scouting, ciência de dados, metodologia de treino, gestão e cultura organizacional.
Não porque eu acredite que um profissional precise dominar tudo.
Mas porque acredito que os maiores avanços acontecem justamente quando diferentes áreas começam a dialogar.
Esse é, inclusive, o exercício que procuro fazer ao escrever.
Não busco oferecer respostas definitivas.
Busco formular perguntas que talvez ainda não estejamos fazendo.
Se o futebol está em constante evolução, talvez nossa responsabilidade não seja apenas acompanhar essa evolução, mas tentar compreender quais serão os próximos paradigmas que transformarão a forma como pensamos o jogo.
É essa reflexão que procuro construir em cada artigo.
Porque acredito que o papel de quem estuda o futebol não é apenas explicar o presente.
